Heart: It's that time of year
Whatever Christmas means to you, however you celebrate, it is a season of the heart. In every sense.
Animal hearts are packed with nutrient-dense cofactors that can boost your metabolism. That’s why at Oath, we’ve named our Beef Heart burgers “Heartstrong.”
And If you’ve never tried heart or have trouble finding or not even seen it at your supermarket, now is the time to learn why it is a keystone food, which you should be adding weekly into your diet, rich in one of the most important nutrients, CoQ10, which is associated with vitality and longevity.
Let's get into it...
Why Eat More Heart
The nutrients locked in the heart are crucial for our metabolism and our ability to utilise cellular energy, particularly in relation to mitochondrial health.
To enhance mitochondrial function, it's essential to focus on key nutrients and consume foods that provide the most benefits.
As we age, our mitochondria tend to weaken, which increases their need for specific nutrients from our diet. These nutrients are essential to compensate for their declining ability to synthesise them internally, such as CoQ10.
Research shows that as we age, the levels of CoQ10 in our bodies decrease, which is associated with poorer mitochondrial health and a higher vulnerability to modern diseases.
When we consume the heart of an animal, we also absorb the mitochondria and the CoQ10 stored within it. This allows us to benefit from the nutrients that the animal has accumulated and provided for us.
Additionally, consuming whole foods like heart provides a variety of nutrients beyond just one specific nutrient.
Along with CoQ10, we also gain taurine, vitamin B2, creatine, amino acids, carnitine, and much more. While there are instances where taking high doses of CoQ10 as a supplement may be justified, whole foods offer a broader spectrum of nutrients that contribute to overall health.
Almost every system in the body is touched:
Muscular health, neurological health, cardiovascular health, it goes on...
How can one organ do all that?
It can often seem, when we're talking about these incredible nutrients and the foods that provide them, that they solve an impossibly long list of problems.
But what we're missing is this: if these foods support our mitochondria (which is exactly what heart does) then they are helping the engine at the core every one of our cells.
And if every cell works more effectively, well then it follows that every system in our body is given a boost – and every disease goes into retreat.
Modern diseases are tied to epigenetics based on mitochondrial health. Optimising Coq10 (and many other micro-nutrients) directly influences mitochondria health.
Life = Anatomy + Energetics + Information = Mitochondria Health
A lesson to take to heart.
